Take Printed Packaging to New Heights with Inline Offset Cold Foil

By August 23, 2018 No Comments

Offset printing doesn’t get the coverage in today’s media that digital print has been known to command. However, offset is still being used for a wide variety of print offerings, including high quality and luxury-oriented printed goods. More specifically, offset is also used for many luxury goods packaging due to the depth and range of color. Even with the depth of color on offsets side, the challenge is finding new ways to make printed packaging stand out.

Eagle Systems helps offset packaging printers meet that challenge head on by giving them the ability to add inline cold foiling to their printing process. Foil is not new to the printing marketplace, but typically the foil used is a hot stamp foil that is completed in an offline process. The complexity of the offline process and the lack of flexibility in design and coverage means that the foil application on most pieces is not all that innovative or eye catching. It just doesn’t stand out.

By using the Eagle Systems Cold Foil System, offset packaging printers have flexibility and capabilities that are not easily achieved through other processes. For example, cold foil can be applied in a gradient using a simple process that is comprised of only two steps and as simple as changing a plate and pressing a button.

The advantages of being able to add cold foil inline gave JohnsByrne, a luxury packaging printer, the ability to reach new heights and fulfill customer projects they would not have been able to in the past. Corey Gustafson, President of JohnsByrne, had this to say about their customers and Eagle Systems:

“We are a very client-centric, customer-focused operation. We look at the marketplace and look for ways to provide solutions to problems our customers are having, and new ways to enhance their current product lines. We try to be very proactive about getting in front of our clients’ needs and the available technology, and the Eagle Systems Cold Foil system proved to be a great compliment to our offering; it was the right fit, at the right time.”

Speaking to the ability to offer a differentiated product to their clients in a cost-effective and efficient way, Corey shared these thoughts:

“We’re now able to produce halftone gradation similar to that in a printing process,” said Corey Gustafson. “Talk about solving problems. Also, when we don’t have to take that extra step of off-press stamping, we’re able to save a pass or process — we can run it once, and we’re done at press speeds of 15,000 impressions per hour. It’s innovative, and it saves time and money on those jobs.”
